Premiere
is a pay TV Channel based in Hamburg. It produces a
certain number of its own programmes, generally shown
in the Clear Window, the part of the broadcast which
is not coded, but mainly it shows films.
The
main problem that was faced in producing the design
was to fifferentiate Premiere from all the other channels.
At least 20 are currently available, and there are many
homes on cable in Germany.
As
Premiere carries no advertising, the income being derived
only from subscriptions, an unusually high emphasis
is placed on the main station ident. This is seen many
times each day and must be kept both entertaining and
simple, yet strong enough to remain enduring.
Type
was selected as the main design element for the channel
in order to clarify its structure and information for
the audience. Colour choice became paramount: different
programming areas were designated their own colour systems-
cinema information is purple, documentaries, beige and
green.
The
type used is generally set tighttly spaced, again to
extend the design from being only pure information.
